Wall Worm Mapping Contest
There's a Wall Worm mapping contest going on right now that has nearly $1k in software prizes. I wanted to share this with anyone here who happens to be a 3ds Max user. This first contest is all just simple world geometry (to help people learn how world brushes work in Max). One of the prizes is a c...

Re: Mapping Goodness and Fried Worms
No, the lighting in Max is not as it will be in-game. It's much better than in the traditional Hammer, however, as it does include realtime lighting and shadows. They just aren't guaranteed to be as Source compiles them exactly. So you get a better approximation, but an exact representation is not t...

Re: Mapping Goodness and Fried Worms
You should seriously get this on other active mapping forums, I know facepunch is really big into hammer and mapping subreddits on reddit. I post on Facepunch and many other 3d and game editing sites regularly. I'm actually winding down with pushing in general on many sites due to time constraints....

Re: Mapping Goodness and Fried Worms
I could definitely see this being helpful for outdoors maps. I don't have 3ds max though and I'm guessing not a lot of people do. Well.. here is your solution: Autodesk Educational License . It's free and legal. Autodesk gives you the opportunity to use their software for learning for three years. ...

Re: Mapping Goodness and Fried Worms
Can you explain the benefits of mapping in 3ds Max over Hammer mapping? Assuming the map is for a source game. That's an excellent question. I'm glad you asked... because the standard response is "That's a dumb idea." I've grown accustomed to the Source community regurgitating that respon...

Re: Mapping Goodness and Fried Worms
The plugin CorVex has been updated this week. There are many new features. http://dev.wallworm.com/media/1/image/png/page/111_corvex2.png Among the new features are expanded UV parameters, new step/slope modes and more. It will be easiest to demonstrate some of the features: http://www.youtube.com/w...

Re: Mapping Goodness and Fried Worms
Thanks for the kind remarks. Regarding custom maps... you are only half-right about custom content in the community. At least in CS:GO, many custom maps have been moved into the core game in the last year (some of which are by people using Wall Worm, BTW). While it's always true that the majority pr...

Mapping Goodness and Fried Worms
It's been a while since I posted here... but then I remembered one of my goals (getting Nipper hooked on Wall Worm) has still gone unfulfilled. So I'm back to share some updates on various tools that might tickle the fancy of a mapper or two. In the last year, I've updated the Wall Worm tools to inc...

Re: New 3ds to Source Model Compiling
Awesome dude, I'll have to take a look into this. I'm glad you bumped the thread because I use 3ds max. You're welcome. For those of you who don't have Max... Autodesk now offers a free, three year student license for free . It's fully functional for three years... long enough time to decide if you...

Re: New 3ds to Source Model Compiling
It's been a really long time since I've visited here. I wanted to share various updates with ya'll. WWMT has grown a lot in functionality since the last post... as well as has expanded into VMF exporting, displacements, etc. A short, incomplete list of new thingies you can play with: VTA/Flex/Facial...

Re: A couple new 3ds>Source Tools
well, do you know any good tutorials? especially for free programs so i don't have to pirate it Not really... I know of a large quantity of resources for Max... but Max is obviously not free. The usual suspects for making models with free programs include Blender, XSI and Gmax. Of those, Gmax is th...

Re: A couple new 3ds>Source Tools
Yes... all three are for 3ds Max. But if you ever decide to give it a try... at least you now know there is a good pipeline into Source now.ehlohel wrote:well, if they're made in a modelling program such as 3ds max then i cant use it cause i dont have it, nor do i own any knowledge of how to use it.

Re: A couple new 3ds>Source Tools
The sky writer and displacement tools are actually for map-making more than modeling, actually. And in the latest version of the VMF exporter of the displacement tool, it will export any (Wall Worm Model Tools) models in the scene as prop entities in the exported VMF. Anyway, I don't really expect a...

A couple new 3ds>Source Tools
Not sure how many people here are using 3ds Max... but I've been working on various tools for Source Asset creation in Max. I've already listed the Wall Worm Model Tools here... now I've got a couple new ones: Sky Writer : Render HDR skies and compile straight into Source WW Displacement Tool : Crea...
