It's coming. September 20th.

You can pre-order it on Steam. It costs $20.

To anyone who has played the game: How is it so far? I have heard good things about it, but I'm not quite taking the dive yet. I just wanted some perspective on how well the game plays, and maybe how fun it is compared to Diablo 3. It is, after all, the spiritual successor to Diablo 2.

It's a lot of fun.

It's not Diablo 2. Loot and levels are easier to get. I'm not going to spend six years playing this like I did Diablo 2. That's fine with me. That's better than fine. I don't have the kind of time I used to. And I have more games that are worth playing vying for the time that I do have. I've been playing for what, less than a week now? I'm probably halfway through the first play through of 5 (4 levels of New Game+), not including the infinitely variable map room. There's more than enough content here to keep me entertained for a very long time without the entire process being reduced to a horrible boring grind. The maps are legitimately random. The boss encounters are delightfully varied. The loot is worthwhile and comparing can be a challenge. Your character development requires forethought and planning. It lacks server secure server support. Characters are saved client-side and are easily moddable. If you play public games you will inevitably play with cheaters. I wish they'd add support even though they'll never host the servers. And they've said they're considering it. That's my only real complaint so far. It makes me not want to play public games, and it makes showing off meaningless as anyone can cheat and obtain the same result with no effort and there's no way to prove you didn't.
