Steam Vulnarable to Malicous Attacks

Post by scobywhru » Thu Oct 18, 2012 3:25 pm

http://www.h-online.com/security/news/i ... 31562.html

The gist of the article is that steam and the steam:// command can be used with games such as Source games and UT based games to install control or otherwise harm a PC.

The article suggest using a separate OS install for games for some security. Please make sure to not click steam links whenever possible. There is no simple solution to this but it isn't a universal attack it relys on having certain games installed, like TF2, or UT based games like Borderlands, that would then be targeted but possibly not other games such as CS or Gears of war. Click with caution.

Wow okay.
Just tell everyone how to do it. Really smart.
Also I'm surprised, has valve looked into this or heard about it?

@Ian
Well 0day means that it's a previously unknown exploit.

From wikipedia:
This means that the developers have had zero days to address and patch the vulnerability.
