Because Team Fortress 2 is not Team Fortress. It's a different game with the same name.

we're not dying

we're just being buried by the surge of casual newcomers who don't know the difference

it's only a matter of time before a developer becomes intelligent enough to cater to us and capitalize on the goldmine that we are

Im not snacky over here ,but wouldn't shifting from a broad target audience(casual)
to a niche demographic, be hurtful for the sales of the industry?

TF2 has less emphasis on team work than previous Team Fortress games did.

Not necessarily, if you play on good servers with smart players. A shitty team with people who don't coordinate is gonna lose, no matter what.

a team with decent players without teamwork can't hold off a heavy/medic combo, friggin awesome players or a terrible team with awesome teamwork would both have more chance

erm

less people play with teamwork

if you pay attention, every time there's a steamroll it's because a team actually works together

And what is there in TF2 that encourages people to play together besides one or two people yelling at everyone on their team over the microphone?

that doesn't encourage teamwork, it is just part of the game. that's like saying tic-tac-toe promotes teamwork.

also from my time playing tf2 it doesn't seem like anyone gives a shit about winning.

In a game that's built around the notion of working on a team, as opposed to a 1v1 board game, yes, it actually does.

I somehow always have to emphasize this when you jokers are talking about TF2, but you dudes play(ed) on shit servers.
