Sony has pulled "The Interview" due to threats of 9/11-style bombings

Thoughts?

I think it's fucking dumb. Sony should release the movie online. A few friends of mine (which are stereotypical tumblr girls) have been calling the movie "an act of terrorism" and disrespectful, while NK literally has death camps and it's leader has threatened to nuke the US, lmao

It's a perfectly reasonable thing for Sony to do in their position, if anything were to happen, no matter how unlikely, their company would be blamed. When you say release it online, do you mean for free? If so, that would just be pointless business-wise. I'm not saying that I agree with their decision, but I understand why they did it from a business standpoint.

I completely agree with you in stance towards the movie and North Korea. And while I agree Sony definitely make the movie purchasable online so they aren't totally 30 million dollars in the hole, I can understand them pulling from theatres not because of them sharing views with North Kofuckingrea, but just as safety as threats have been made to any theatre that shows the movie. While its probably bullshit, its better to be safe than sorry with things like that.

If North Korea didn't want a movie satirizing their evil dictator, they shouldn't have an evil dictator.

Either throw it up online for purchase or do straight-to-DVD

the movie has gotten so much free press it's ridiculous

I just think it's crazy that Sony and all these theaters caved to empty and anonymous threats

It's fun reading all the theories about how this is all some grand marketing scheme, and Sony's gonna decide to release it anyway because "Fuck NK", and then everyone will go see it because "Muh patriotism", and it'll make more money than Avatar and the Illuminati will be rich 4ever.

Sony just showed they're more afraid of North Korean threats than any government agency is, unless DHS or something warned them that the threats could be legitimate I really don't see what the fuss is about.

Seems like everyone is overlooking the fact that hackers (99% likely NK) released the private information of thousands of employees, as well as sensitive emails and other information. I feel like they have a legitimate fear of further retaliation if they went ahead with the movie.
