new phone

Post by tehENEMY » Tue Sep 30, 2014 12:04 am

So I've got an old droid x thats getting a little slow and crash too frequently. I looked at the x2 but it didnt seem like that much of an improvement I could totally be wrong on that but it was released only a year after the first. What I'm really looking for is a pretty decent camera I carry in my pocket all day and sometimes play emerald on. Anyone want to help me out with amazon links or at least a few models to look for?

I'd presume because it's a droid you're on Verizon? Or you unlocked it? I'm on Verizon and picked up the G3 a month ago and it's tits. Great camera and battery, and a gorgeous screen (1440p) which turns the great battery into a normal one in terms of how long you can power the thing. Might be out of your price range though if you're looking for an off plan deal, goes for like $500 on its own.

Wait. Motorola is announcing the new line-up of droids in october. So unless you want a moto x I'd wait until october and see what they announce. Me personally october is do or die for the droid 5. Which i desperately need. I WANT MY PHYSICAL QWERTY.

If the droid 5 isn't announced I'm gonna probably move from Droid to Windows. Despite the fact that windows doesn't support my favorite game.

Not entirely sure what unlocked means but the phone didn't have a plan I really only use it for bullshit apps and as a camera. Honestly I want a new one because snapchat keeps crashing and I'm missing out on butts.

I have the Galaxy S5 and it's phenomenal. The camera is great, one of the best on the market. The screen is 1920x1080 (1080p) as well as AMOLED, contrast is outstanding. It also has USB 3.0 so it transfers files quick, charges fast and the battery is pretty hefty, I think some 2100mAh. Another noteworthy bit is that it's waterproof.

Here's a picture I took yesterday of some foliage, note I compressed the filesize from 17.8mB to about 2mB:
Image

The video is great as well, shoots 1080p at 60FPS and 4K UHD at 30FPS

2gB RAM, 2.5Ghz Quad core processor (Snapdragon 801) and a 5.1" screen.

Costed $100 w/ the plan, probably around to $500-700 by itself

600 dollar smartphones are great (see the HTC One M8 I use), but if you aren't on-contract, I don't think they are worth ~$300+ extra from lower-end devices.

(alternately, if you are on-contract, get a new phone whenever you can because you're paying for it anyway)

As you just need an "iPod touch-like device", I would get a locked-to-a-prepaid-network device. Moto G, Nokia 520 are going to be well under $100 and give you a pretty-good Android / WP8.1 experience. The big downside to the locked Moto G is storage, you only got 8GB, and no SD slot.

Unlocked Moto Gs (16GB with SD slot) are around $200, from there you can get a gen-1 Moto X, Nexus 5, that weird OnePlusOne phone, then into "flagship" $600+ devices.

(also if you know iPhone upgraders, make an offer on their 4s / 5.)

What about the Nexus 5? It comes unlocked (Can use any SIM card so you aren't restricted to one network provider) and will be on the latest version of android before any other phone. Also it's not monstrously large like some of the flagships. Or you could wait for the nexus 6.

hello all, the best cheap phone (Moto G gen 2 8GB) is $150 on amazon today, pop in a 32GB microSD card and go to town (note: no LTE).

Got the LG G3. It's pretty nice but lags a bit more than my HTC One did. I'm not sure how practical the quad HD is since it may or may not cause lag and negatively impact battery life.

LG G3 shouldn't lag more my guess is something is operating in the background, I would suggest disabling any apps that you don't use that shipped with the phone. I would guess it would be a voice assistant or homescreen feature causing the lag.
