Could care less how much like System Shock 2 it was, it could have been System Shock 2 remade for all I care, there was more than enough substance in Bioshock for it to hold up on its own. "Spiritual predecessor" conveys that it's much like what it's descending from, so it's fine with me in that regard. If the formula works, don't fuck with it.

As for ridiculous stuff like jumping up and hacking shit, whelp, it's a game. As far as the difficulty went, I felt that it definitely wasn't as easy as he made it out to be, but the vita-chambers obviously took out some of the challenge. If there was an abundance of ammo and power ups, I certainly didn't notice it because I had to loot every fucking corpse I came across just to buy a sufficient amount of supplies.

Morally contrasted endings where there's only absolute evil or absolute sainthood? Get used to it is what I say to that.

Also, the "FPS RPG" selections he listed that supposedly did it better hardly made sense at all. STALKER barely had any RPG elements in it, aside from being able to accept "quests," and Deus Ex and System Shock 2 are over ten years old by now. There's hardly any modern examples to draw from, and I don't really remember Bioshock being billed as a full-time FPS RPG, I think it was only meant to just be elements of RPG, IE choosing your plasmid upgrades and shit.

It didn't particularly feel like a kick in the balls for me, and I was hyped for it a lot as it is, but it delivered on almost all fronts for me. I certainly wasn't expecting the best game ever, but I was expecting a great game, and that's just what I got. Maybe I'm just a sucker for art-deco and the ocean, though.

Otherwise, good review. Yahtzee makes some entertaining stuff. His "The Darkness" demo review is some great shit.

avvatar you get the pacsteam torrent, then install pacsteam. but don't run it. then decompress the pacsteam files in the right place (pacsteam/steamapps/ or something like that, read the readme), then in PacSteam\steamapps\common\bioshock\Builds\Release is Bioshock.exe and the dll file. replace those, then double click Bioshock.exe and it should run.

Yeah but hell I wasn't rushing playing it a second time.

My point is, the game is short.

Short after you've already beaten it, know where everything is, probably not stopping for many message logs, etc.

No shit, son. Christ, can this logic not be applied to most games these days?

I was playing it on a harder setting, I spent extra time going around looking for logs I missed before.

You're still more aware of where certain things are and you're used to the gameplay at that point. Hard mode isn't much of a stretch from Normal diificulty.

Wow, what the hell? I've never even played through Halo.

But just looking at HL1, HL2, Prey, FEAR, Doom 3 etc, none of them take a super long time to complete. HL1 was pretty long I guess going through the first time but not really once you know the layout and what to do for everything.

HL1 and HL2 are both well over ten hours.

Prey is a bad game.

Prey is a fucking sweet game. I beat it in one sitting though, so it's too short.

I thought prey was awesome, though the plot made me any my friends laugh.

"A Cherokee on a reserve gets abducted by aliens and has to save his girlfriend and blow up the mothership..."

Though when I started playing it, it really had a good storyline!
