Guild Wars 2

Post by Gr|m » Wed Sep 01, 2010 3:57 am

Surprised that I haven't found a GW2 topic yet? If you haven't seen what this game looks like, you need to check it- it looks pretty amazing.

Here is the "Manifesto" video, basically people telling you about it and showing you it

(Open in new link for 1080p + maximized ;)

a boss fight video

I mean, for a one time purchase (if there is success, expansions would be imminent) I definitely think I will be buying this. Looks awesome.

here are some class videos

note- I never played the original Guild Wars, so I know little about the game

This is going to be the best game ever, any game with underwater exploration and sharks for pets is a must buy.

So that first video (the ad) looks amazing and makes me really want to play. The second video for some reason really reminds me of Hellgate: London and how awesome it looked and how horribly it sucked.

I'm pretty sure the level cap is higher, but the game FAQ doesn't say specifically.

I really liked original Guild Wars, but I know people who were looking for a subscription-less WoW killer or even just MMO were often disappointed. That said, Guild Wars 2 looks pretty damn different than the first, and so far I'm interested in what they've unveiled. Whatever the case, I'm definitely getting it since all my friends will probably be getting it. . . soooo yeah.

They've announced four classes, and a bit about combat and stuff like that.

Just read the wikipedia and it said the level cap has been raised to 80. Doesn't cite a specific source, but I hope they're right and if they are I will definitely be buying it.

I thought the original guild wars was ok for a little bit. The one thing that killed it for me was the instancing. It wasn't like most where one instance fills up then you get put into a new one but where you had to choose a group to go play with otherwise you were by yourself. If they have the same system I wouldn't buy it because I usually play games like this on the fly and want a matchmaking system.
Because, since you don't know me, there is a great possibility that I'm on an higher intellectuel level then you are on.

The level cap is 80 and has been stated many times. In regards to instances, there will be one instance in the main city that will show your personal story, dungeons will be instanced, and probably a few other thing I can't remember right now. However, I believe the majority of the game will be on a persistent world server.

once we can figure out a server, we all need to make sure we go on the same server- that way we'll have the chance to at least fight alongside each other from time to time

Server switching will be easy. They're going to have this thing which is "World Versus World" (server versus server) pvp which looks like it's basically just gonna be like faction pvp. That is, easy to join, very casual. There is a short time after you switch from a server that you can't participate, but other than that, it looks like server switching shouldn't be a problem. We'll see I guess.

They also say in the FAQ that they're going to have a sidekick-like system akin to City of Heroes, so anyone who's played that could maybe explain what that means.

As far as the first game and instances, I liked the feel of it but it was more Diablo-esque co-op rpg IMO with towns kind of like the dii chat in that regards I guess.

But yeah, I'm pretty excited for the game. Read the Ghosts of Ascalon book cause I'm the type of guy who likes fluff to my gaming.
