I don't really know how to introduce an upcoming game, but here goes nothing. I can best describe Terraria as a combination of Metroid, Zelda games and MineCraft. A 2D action platformer whose main page sums up the experience in one sentence.

"Dig, fight, explore, build! Nothing is impossible in this action-packed adventure game. The world is your canvas and the ground itself is your paint."

This game has been in production since Janurary 2011, and made by the same guy who brought the internet SMBX. Current planned public release is within one to three months, at a cost from $5 to $20. They are quite surprised at the popularity explosion they've had recently. If anyone has any questions I'll try to answer them as best as possible if they can't find answers on their own.

So far, there are no friendly mobs, only hostile ones. However there are NPC's (Guide, Nurse, Merchant) that you can interact with. Would be pretty sweet if you could toss a gem at a slime and change it's color.

Edited my above post to include part three of the 'let's play' by the yogscast. According to the official website for the game, they are currently full-up on alpha testers, so don't email them (they are getting a high volume of emails since the game looks fun). They didn't mention when the beta stage will be, but I will keep looking and post updates if need be

I just got the game and have just played it for a bit. Controls are weird at first but its pretty fun. Crafting system is neat, it shows what you can make with all the stuff in your inventory.
