Will you be upgrading your PC for Bf3?

Post by Little Weapon » Sun Jun 12, 2011 12:59 pm

I know I will. Theres no way I'm letting lag and a slow processor stop me from enjoying what will be the best game ever made.

What are your specs now and what do you plan on upgrading to?

In reality, the best sex results from good communication and planning; like a Rainbow 6 mission.

ATI 4800
2 GB ram
Intel Core 2 Duo 2.33

I won't be able to run any new games this fall so I'm stuck upgrading if I wanna play new stuff.

Also wasn't it rumored to only support Windows 7 or vista? What ever happened with that? If that's true I'll have to buy a copy of windows which I haven't done since 1995.

AMD Athlon II X2 240 2.80ghz
2gb RAM
NVIDIA GeForce 9600 GT

Probably not. At some point in the future I may get a new video card for DX11, but I'm not too worried about that.

AMD Phenom II X4 970 Black Edition 3.5GHz Quad core
4GB 800Mhz RAM
9800GTX+

I'm planning on upgrading the GPU, but not for BF3, just a general upgrade, got a teacher at my old high school with a crapton of GTX480's he's trying to offload.

i2500K
128 SSD
5850 1gb
8gb DDR3 1600mhz

Getting a new GPU for sure. Heard the game can use over 1gb of vram so I don't plan to be bottlenecked there. When the time comes I'll overclock my i2500k to at least 4.5ghz.

It's DX10 and DX11 only. DX9 is not supported meaning no Windows XP allowed.

BF3 maps have more than 1gb of total resources, but FB2.0 uses instancing and dx11 texture streaming so at any given time the game doesn't have to cache nearly that much, at least at 1080p or lower resolutions. This is specifically so the game doesn't take 5 minutes to load like BF2 did

Once you factor in 1920x1200 or greater resolutions and Anti-Aliasing it's definitely possible to use more than 1gb of vram.

4 passes of MSAA in BF3 is about +160 mb

There's not a game out right now that makes good use of more than 1gb vram at 1080p. BF3 might be different, but it'd be the first. Look up benchmarks of the 6950 1gb vs the 6950 2gb if you want proof, up to 2560x1600 with 8x MSAA they perform identically
