Do not download EA origins. There is a part in the user agreement that says that EA can look at anything you download or have on your hard drive anytime they want.

EA may also use this information combined with personal information for marketing purposes and to improve our products and services. We may also share that data with our third party service providers in a form that does not personally identify you.

Maybe someone should check steams EULA. Although I trust valve way more than EA.

This isn't anything new, and it doesn't look at the files just the programs that you have installed. It's like the steam hardware survey. Only you have to take it lol

Steam monitors how you play games and such but the hardware and software survey is voluntary. You get randomly selected and receive a popup asking if you want to participate in the hardware (and a check box for doing the software) survey and that's how you agree. That's pretty much perfect and I don't know why EA wouldn't copy it.

I don't think steam looks at what you have downloaded and what's on hour hard drive if I am not mistaken.

Also, EA claims that the info taken will be anonymous, but they also can take your ip address

Origin won't be looking at what you have downloaded either. Is there anything from what you quoted that you are having trouble understanding?

the origin eula goes beyond what any other game eula (or any eula that i know of) has done before:

- can look at all installed programs (steam can do this)
- can scan your entire hd (steam can't do this)
- can scan your entire memory (steam can't do this)
- can see all running processes (steam can't do this)
- can upload any or all of this data (steam can't do this)
- can sell or give away any or all of this data to third parties (steam can't do this)

this is a big deal

But there’s a significant difference. Valve’s policy is self-restricted to anything on your PC directly relating to its own products. EA’s is so broad that it gives the publisher permission to scan your entire hard drive, and report back absolutely anything you may have installed, and indeed when you may use it, and then pass that information on the third parties.
