No voice chat confirmed for final release

Post by Neelpos » Wed Oct 12, 2011 7:23 pm

GameSpy: The beta didn't support in-game VOIP; players had to form a party through battlelog to be able to chat just to their party. Will Battlefield 3 include in-game VOIP – be it squad or team based – at launch?
Lars: No, on PC this (battlelog) is what we're going to ship with. Then we're going to evaluate how we move forward with this. It's something we've heard from the community, it's something we understand. At the same time, building a game of this size, you can't win all of the battles. The convenience of going in with friends with your party VOIP channel and keep it even after the game, is definitely a strength. That's just the start – we can definitely evolve from there down the road.

Because having in game voice chat is just impossible, even if everyone wants it.

I'm probably the few that does not care for this since for the most part, I only want talk with other j2 people playing on the server. Other than that, I would never use voice chat in any BF game.

Having no VOIP is stupid but I'm with axis on this one where it doesn't bother me at all since whenever j2 play we always get inside 1 large party group and could chat there (even though we chat on mumble instead anyway).

Same. I'll hear one or two people use it every so often, but it's normally them just talking on Vent/Mumble/whatever and using the same key for their in-game bind.

Why would I want ingame VOIP, when Battlelog has voice chat. If you care enough to voice chat, you should probably play with bros. But as others mentioned, using any other outside VOIP program is 200% better.
