For those of you who already have WOW downloaded but are not paying anymore its possible that you'll need the "trial"(it uses the word trial in the file name) download instead. (Based on some suggestive fine print i read)

In order to download + play starter edition i guess you go to battle.net, log into your battle.net account, and then look around for "starter edition" it may already be added as a game or you might have to click around looking for the add button, try looking under "Buy Digital Games". You should see it listed here as a game when its added: https://us.battle.net/account/management/
"World of Warcraft®
[WoW1] (Starter Edition)
Americas & Oceania (US)"

Edit: You might be able to get away with downloading at the last minute since it downloads the game as you play, though you can let the launcher sit there and download more.

Edit: Realm selection can be tricky, make sure you have the correct realm selected before you create your character. When you get to the character creation screen press "Back".

I actually just got a week of free game time from blizzard today. So if the other servers fail, I have an 85 hunter on tichondrius who can take people around on my two seater rocket.

For the purpose of picking a realm to play on i've collected player and realm data here:
http://wiki.joe.to/index.php/World_of_Warcraft

I'm going with Nazgrel as the realm to play on, objections?

My only real experience with low level PvP is me getting killed a few times, so i don't really know what significance it has, right now i'm airing on the side of caution.

Updated that wiki page with population balance and estimated alliance:horde ratios taken from
http://www.warcraftrealms.com/realmstats.php
The numbers listed are very rough estimations, and are completely broken for some servers. Crushridge seems is one of them, but from my experience being on that realm, the balance is roughly 1:1 and population probably 3k.

Also added Kel'Thuzad which is where Waterbear and I currently are. I still have a few max level alts on Crushridge.

No objections with Nazgrel. A mage would actually be pretty nice - they can slow fall and teleport us various cities around the world. If Ikri is in a level 25 guild she can mass res everyone every 10 minutes if we die (assuming trial accounts will be able to group with her). Only thing she can't do is give us some form of water walking.

Realm: Crushridge (Required, Pick this before creating character, "Back" Button)
Side: Alliance (Required)
Region: United States (Required)
Preferred Race: Human, Night Elf? (Determines First Spawn Location, doesn't matter)
Time: Saturday, December 10, 2011, 5 PM (hmm, 5 minutes from now, the room is empty, no idea what to expect, might need to make it a week from now or something, ops)

Edit: up to date info will be kept in the first post

That was... awkward timing. Heh.

I'd be up to do it any time tonight and tomorrow. Any race except Worgen is fine since I can come pick you up. Worgens are stuck in a starting area 'til level 12 or so unfortunately. I'll be on Mumble in Clubhouse channel and on IRC.

I think i planned it too soon and wasn't strong enough in communicating the date/time, we'll pick a different day, we'll also do an announcement on the main steam community group.

in addition to making an announcement on the main group i'll spam this new group and let others spam it with what ever they want, (not to be confused with that other spam group that is never used):

tonight (right now) I and who ever else feels like will do a quick dry run, for example i'll see exactly how limited this starter account it. I'll be on and off throughout the next few hours.

Magic!
Toons on Crushridge:
Posts has a level 7 Druid. Not sure what type of Druid he'd like to be, though.
I have a level 10 Shaman range dps, can heal, and a level 7 Hunter.
Djan-- err I mean, some nerdy dude we know that is most certainly not Django has a pretty boss Hunter, I think higher than my Shaman.
Moe has a level 5 Hunter and Woogs has a hunter but she calls us all scrubs :(
