Older games, and playing them with J2
Archer mentioned I've been doing this quite a bit during tonight's Halo game, and I realized yeah, he's kind of right. He told me I should get a list together of the games I've been organizing, and ones I may do in the future, so I guess I can throw that up here. These will just be games to have handy in case an impromptu game night is thrown together, and obviously will only be games I own, feel free to add your own, but obviously if I don't have them, it's up to you to organize the actual nights.
IMPORTANT: YOU NEED MUMBLE
We use Mumble to communicate, as in game voice chat tends to suck, and some of these games don't have any at all! Mumble can be downloaded here: http://mumble.sourceforge.net/
The Joe.to Mumble server information can be found here: http://wiki.joe.to/index.php/Joe.to_mumble
Games we've been playing, and where you can get them:
Counter Strike Source/1.6
Source: http://store.steampowered.com/app/240/
1.6: http://store.steampowered.com/app/10/?snr=1_7_15__13
This one's obvious, and I'm mostly including it in the list because it'd be weird to leave it out, as it is the most popular. I don't tend to organize the nights for these, but anyone can, and you'll generally get a good turnout. Good heart pumping twitch shooting action, and of course lots and lots of Nipper maps.
Star Wars Jedi Knight II: Jedi Outcast
http://store.steampowered.com/app/6030/
The Multiplayer in this game is kinda wonky, but that's the charm of it, whenever we can find a good server this game really is a lot of fun to just fuck around in, straight up saber battles, gunplay, force power battles, this one's a real treat (a broken treat, but a treat nonetheless)
Star Wars Battlefront II
http://store.steampowered.com/app/6060/ ... _151_150_1
With functional local hosting, this game's prime for setting up our own temporary servers on whoever's connection can handle it, then brawling throughout the gamemodes, whether they be control point, attack/defend, or heroes mode where force pull becomes the most bullshit thing you've ever encountered, but in a good way. If you don't already have this game what the fuck is wrong with you, it's fun as hell even in single player.
Halo: Combat Evolved
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... _-32102230
Unfortunately this one's physical copy only, unless you do what you want because a pirate is free, but still, who doesn't remember Halo? The PC version comes with a smorgasbord of extra maps, as well as the addition of the fuel rod cannon and flamethrower to the mix. Local hosting is available in this as well, so we don't have to worry about randoms invading our games, though it seems local hosting is limited to 10 players, so if this one gets bigger we may have to trudge into public servers, of which there are no guarantees. Still, a classic, and one I'm definitely going to be getting us to play more.
Half Life 2: Deathmatch
http://store.steampowered.com/app/320/
I haven't set up a night for this yet, but I probably will at some point. What's not to love about playing Half Life, but instead of paying attention to the story, or staring at Alyx's butt (ew gross) you can just shoot TehEnemy in his fat fucking face over and over? If you have HL2, you probably have this, if you don't, acquiring it should be fairly simple.
Tribes: Ascend
http://www.tribesascend.com/
I sure haven't touched this in a while, and that's a bad thing, I should definitely touch it, we all should, let's go touch it sometime. Good speedy jetpacky sliding shooting fun. Oh and best of all, it's free! Shazbot.
Red Orchestra 2: Heroes of Stalingrad
http://store.steampowered.com/app/35450/
I acquired this game in a recent Humble Bundle, and have yet to play it, so I don't know much about it I can plug. As far as I'm aware it's a more realistic shooter; gun jamming, reloading tosses out the clip, Russians, all that fancy stuff. Let's check it out sometime, and if any of you have praise you can rain on it, go ahead and do so, we'll see if we can't get a game going sometime.
Quake Live
http://www.quakelive.com/#!home
It's literally just Quake 3: Arena with anti-aliasing and higher resolution, also, it's free to play! I haven't touched it much since the beta, but someone mentioned we should play it earlier tonight, so into the list it goes! Let's get a list of SN's together and railgun each other sometime.
That's it for now, watch the official Joe.to Steam group for game announcements, we'll do our best to post them ahead of time! Also feel free to set up your own nights, I'll be doing some sure but with your guys help these will probably happen more frequently.
Might I request a sticky?

Yup, I'll try to be there for these. It did seem you were having a nostalgia trip.

Re: Older games, and playing them with J2
Feel free to suggest games people should pick up during the Steam summer sale as well, most of the games I listed should be appearing there, so a cheap price would be great incentive to get more people playing!
Tell us more about this, because I'm lazy.jermm wrote:

Magicka?
I played Halo with everyone last night, that was really fun. Do we have the ability to set up a server on our own stuff a day prior, maybe older games won't be too much of a resource drain. I found out that Halo specifically doesn't have a linux server, though.

Re: Older games, and playing them with J2
the greatest canceled expansion ever, released for free for some reason, wolfenstein ET takes the already great RTCW MP and adds another class, plus 6 classic maps.
need to find the best version to play though.
