People willing to break nda: how busted is the alpha?

Though an extra few months for better performance + balance seems like a good move.

there are pretty flagrant frame rate issues
i was ok on connections but i know for a fact that yatta was having difficulty staying connected to a game

apparently so was jason but all of the connection issues could be an aspect of the server load testing that they were performing

Yeah I remember the one time I tried was only about an hour before they said for everyone to try and log in in that message they sent out so that may have been partially it. Unfortunately I just didn't have a lot of time to play that weekend.

Game ran great for me. I hitched maybe a half dozen times over the weekend. It's a problem, having your game freeze for 5-10 seconds, but it's not the sort of thing I expect them to have any trouble identifying and fixing. I failed to join a game once. I got into a game and got kicked prior to loading once. I failed to exit the dropship once. All specific problems which I expect them to be able to fix.

Rounds tend to be a little too short for the "long" between-round wait.

I felt like the character I was strongest with was overpowered. Feedback from others suggests that they also feel their strongest characters (not the same as mine) are overpowered. Which taken together implies exceptionally good balance.

Most rounds seemed to break down into 4 phases: the hunt, the chase, the fight and, if the monster hit level 3, sometimes the defense. Phases 1-3 can repeat. The fight can turn back into a chase. A chase back into a hunt. Some hunters work towards keeping the round in certain phases, and presumably different monsters will excel at different phases.

I am a little worried about long-term replayability and whether or not they get enough variation into the game.

It was fun and I'll definitely be purchasing it and looking to play with you guys.

It's not a beta, it's an alpha. You can sign up here, but there's currently no closed alpha test going on. I briefly talked with a 2k Games rep, and he said that there will be further alphas for more testing, but didn't mention when.
