Hello, I want to make a defuse map (and finally finish one this time) and I have absolutely no ideas. I thought of doing a "deal or no deal" game show set. with corridors behind it and it looked pretty good but I new the game play wasn't going to work.
I keep giving up on all my ideas by being inspired by something else or coming across errors
(or just generally messy), or I get bored of seeing it and loose the spark I had a few hours into making it.
do any of you also get this? if so how do you overcome it? I've been mapping for 5 years and can say I have only really finished about 4 maps.
p.s I'm a perfectionist (which really doesn't help either)

kill the banker
Also, I haven't finished any maps I've started yet either.
I will do some mapping today.
It's pretty much:
1) Play too much TF2.
2) Get bored.
3) Start mapping.

You could (maybe) put a hostage in a bank setting. The Counter terrorists spawn in his office along with the banker, the terrorist spawn on the street outside. The terrorists have to break into the bank, and kill the banker in order to win. The counter terrorists have to prevent this from happening.KipperTheDog.j2 wrote:Kill the banker, that's good. not sure how it would work though.Wolsk wrote:kill the banker

Or it could be a simple put c4 on a bank vault to win.

You should finish your abstract map. That way you can at least be satisfied with releasing something. I mean at least i feel satisfaction when finally releasing something. It doesn't necessarily have to be the best map ever. If you've spent a lot of time on it, it'd suck to see it just go to waste.
I've done this with countless maps, and I feel shitty for doing so.
When I reformatted my computer a couple of months ago i never backed up the map i was working on.
I still regret this.
I thought to my self, even if I'm not satisfied with it, I should still finish it and release it. This way I'm learning new things and getting other peoples opinions.

Ahh damn that's so right. I am blind to this, I make maps then abandon them for new ones and it's just a constant cycle I will carry on with "wahhh" or whatever i'm going to call it. thanks man. and yeah same I formatted my pc and didnt back up ANY of my unfinished maps (like 100s of them) and regret it because those where the ones I learned from.Franklin wrote:You should finish your abstract map.
