Observations on Friendly fire and playing spy

Post by Mad_Dugan » Thu Feb 28, 2008 8:02 pm

Why it is easier:
  • Opposing team can't just shoot at everything to spy check.
Why it is harder:
  • Being primarily a melee class, getting Tk'd happens often as you are among the opposing team when the rockets come flying in.
  • Players are better informed on what the subtle clues are to detect a spy
  • Players actively volunteer to play pyro to spy check and will guard key areas (spies have some type of accelerant on them :( )
:

On a related note, Some observations on spies and All Talk

Why it is easier:
  • Opposing players will sometimes vocalize your disguise, which can prompt you to change.
Why it is harder:
  • Your chat bubble shows up when cloaked and shows your team color when disguised

The other one is on how to detect a spy. This is more of a treatise on playing a spy on FF=on servers vs. playing on FF=off servers.

"Players are better informed on what the subtle clues are to detect a spy"

As in the game has been out for a bit and people are learning the game.

____

I hate playing spy cause even when I am disguised and have the paper mask on my face, people STILL decide that I must be a special kind of enemy spy that has the ability to alter my looks to be like OUR spy with a freaking paper mask on.

People just need to stop being so twitchy and look closer at details. Then there will be more (and maybe better) spys not getting team killed.

As for checking:

sigh just use voice chat and ask the person (using name seen) if they are in x, y, z place...

takes a second and it is easy... if you dont have a second...then well just try to run through them or maybe just follow them to see what they do...

so many options other than shooting them.

I had some yahoo empty a clip of HMG ammo into me just cause he thought I was a spy...I mean come on now. Check some other nice way.

just chase the person you think is a spy and then try and walk threw them. And if you follow them the usualy get nervous and mess up.

I remember I came into http://www.joe.to #3 one day and as I got to the red team I became witness to a very interesting display. Alltalk was on and the first sounds heard were, "No pyro man with an axe, I'm on your team! For God's sake look at the speach bubble above my head. NO...NOOO....NOOOOOOOOO! (death)" It was Xello being killed by some random jackass pyro spy checking with an axe. Funniest thing ever though.

What TheKing neglects to mention here is that he then started to chase xello around and kept acting like he was gonna hit him with the axe - Give the man flashbacks, that will.
