Why would you need fraps for a source game?
Eh. Just need something that records besides the ingame replay.

Demos. You can save demo files.

that works? I'll give it a try.

EDIT: After a night of recording demos through the console, I've gotten some good footage. Sadly, it doesn't record my own mic. If I can find a way to cut up the footage, I might just make a ham-based montage.

You can use voice_loopback 1 if you can stand hearing you talk over yourself.

Or

You can just use replay (since it works now).

I'll give both a shot. The recordings I made earlier are proving just how crap my PC is. The 1 hour recording crashed my PC, and the 32 minute one almost crashed it. Might try a combo of replays and recording in small amounts.

I save clips with the replay system then script the entire scene in the replay editor. When I'm ready to output the video I just play it through the editor and record with Fraps. Gives a much better (and consistent) video quality than exporting through the editor, in my opinion. The editor also takes waaaaay too long to export and does occasionally crash. The Fraps files are rather large, so I use Handbrake to convert them before uploading to YouTube. It keeps the video quality but drops the file size significantly.

"OK, try to imagine yourself in the J2 Server... You get your first look at this "Pinkle" as you enter a clearing. She moves like a bird, lightly, bobbing her flamethrower. And you keep still because you think that maybe her visual acuity is based on movement like Johnny5 - She'll lose you if you don't move. But no, not Pinkle. You stare at her, and she just stares right back. And that's when the attack comes. Not from the front, but from the side, from the Hippie and Wolsky you didn't even know were there. Because Pinkle's a pack hunter, you see, she uses coordinated attack patterns and she is out in force today. And he slashes at you with this... A barbed-wired-wrapped fire axe, The Axetinguisher, in her left hand. She doesn't bother to headshot you like a Porkbun, say... no no. She lights you and slashes at you here, or here... Or maybe across the belly, critting your intestines. The point is, you are alive when she starts to rape you. So you know, try to show a little respect..." -- 3Ducks

Scripting the scenes is kinda fun. You get to see all the crazy shit that happened on other areas of the map that you didn't see happen the first time. After that, the fraps-to-final-video process takes about 5 minutes.

F6 is the default "save replay" key. Hit it before you die to save that current life, or hit it immediately after you die.
