works better, minimizing is no problem, but takes a few seconds to maximize again.

Okay, so I did this and my fps went to shit... So I undid it.

I'd rather the occasional crash over shitty FPS.

Yes. The config I describe technically makes in run in windowed mode but taking up the whole screen. You take a performance hit, but most people think its worth it to be able to seamlessly minimize tf2.
