Is it intentional for tf4 to force download all maps for me?

Everytime I join tf4, it re-downloads any map it's playing on. This includes existing maps I have already played/downloaded.

Is this intentional? No other server does this to me.

The server settings that I remember are...

sv_downloadurl

net_maxfilesize

Zeno you should remove that fastdownload link. It shouldn't be on the forums. also are you sure it's the map and not the nav file are being downloaded?

I'll have to double check the filetype, but I thought the filetypes weren't nav files.

Yeah. If the file it's trying to download ends in .nav, it's a nav mesh that allows bots (and stuff like the horsemann) to work and it's not a bug.

It downloads it so that it's the same one that is on the server. They aren't like map files, different servers could make their own .nav files and some can work better. It does make the load times longer and it's lets some people spawn the headless horseman and bots that move.
I don't like bots, neither do many other people. I can understand having one bot medic if there are only a few people on the server and the other team has a medic... but once scoby spawned 1 medic and 3 engies on each team when there were only 6 real people on the server.

it's also there to allow game modes that use bots which could be implemented in the future.

Yeah I know what nav is.

I checked, and yup it is nav files.

But aren't they suppose to be cached to the client? That way they don't download every connect.
