Source Filmmaker

How is there not already a topic about this?
I'm surprised stabby hasn't mentioned it, it's the tool of his dreams!
Has anyone seen the tutorials? Recieved a beta key? What do you think of it?
Do you think it will be able to work with imported demo files?
I know once I get it, I'm going to make some backgrounds for sure!
Anyone have any ideas for shorts they want to do?

It looks awesome, I'd be happy to help, Ikri. One idea of mine was "Meet the Spycrab," and now that we have the ability to make it, I want to.

Also, rofl at Django's video.

I just got it last night. Haven't had much time to play around with it. It is pretty cool though.

Yea, still waiting for mine. Hopefully I can mess around with it and get a few laughs. Been thinking of doing a series of the "Real" Meet the team. IE: Meet the Pyros cause there is never just one...

Waiting on my key too. I would wanna try importing all non-Valve assets and see how hard it is to start from scratch.

This looks like a great tool!!

Like anything though, without a good story and script, we will see a bunch of rehashed machinimas with just flash and no substance.

To make these shine you need good Voice Acting, good storyboards, great camera moves, expressions, etc. Even the video Django just posted could've been tightened up a bit with the camera work, expressions, animation, sound mix, etc. That's what will set the great stuff apart from everything else. What makes that video cool is the Music from The Incredibles and an actual story. Also the moving camera is actually pretty good.

I look forward to what people will come up with. Also you will notice that the lighting in the "Meet The..." videos are excellent. There are so many aspects to this tool that take time and effort to get righht.

This is why Hollywood movies look so good. You have one highly skilled person for each of those tasks and even then, you may have a team of people for one small task.

Great small indie projects done by a few people take longer to make because they have to cover more of the jobs to make it look professional.

I am with Stabby on this one. Let's see what elements you can build from the ground up and see what kind of original storytelling folks can come up with outside of the traditional gameplay machinima. :)

Got Source Filmmaker from a Valve employee who's like my #1 best friend right now. Things just got really interesting.

Do it. Go work for Valve on their hinted-at TF2 cartoon on Adult Swim.

You should be a total dick to him and ask if you can get more codes for us.

A TF2 cartoon would be absolutely terrible, so there won't be one.
