Critical Hits

Post by Bash » Thu Jun 25, 2015 10:31 am

A thread was opened that mentioned disabling random crits on tf4, I for one would love it, but can we have a serious discussion on this?

Sure, but this isn't a topic for only the admin forums.

Disable an important piece of TF2 gameplay? I don't see why a wacky game full of random nonsense has to be made more serious.

I don't see a point in disabling them. Yeah, I hate them to high heaven and will always claim that the Heavy should never have crits ever, but I'd rather have them on. >.>

In my personal view they're are so many weapon combos that can cause crits on command that random crits seem redundant.

I'm pro-crits, at least for this server. They rarely decide a match on their own, and they let your average player get a little victory over the good ones every once in a while. Dying over and over again to someone much better is pretty frustrating if you just want to play casually, and crits can help break that up.

Now 1.8x overheal on the other hand...

The title was 'Critical Hits' not overheal, lets not touch that with a 10-foot pole.
But anyway, crits always seemed out of place to me. Like Token said there are non-random elements in the game that give them so they just don't feel right to me. What if we had a vote, and if enough people on the forums said they want them off, then we go for a bit with them off and see how it goes.

Yes, we should definitely get rid of the 18x overheal.

Random crits are fine. Slower overheal drain is great. More overheal is... Kinda shit.

4x overheal when

I'm glad we can all agree to get rid of random crits
I asked David Geffen personally if he'd donate to TF4 for me, but he wouldn't do it

I... is that what we said? I vote (in this super-democratic situation :P) that we keep 'em. I don't see any problem with a feature that that can be guaranteed through certain actions/loadouts, but still accessible through chance without. Like, I don't see what purpose removing them would serve, save for making a game more deterministic and serious.

If we had a "serious business" server, then I could understand it, but TF4 is very much a fun place to hang out. That's a large part of why we have unofficial and wacky maps. The largest step I think should be taken would be adding a knob for admins to temporarily (until next map or reverse admin action) disable random crits in the event of a serious match and server vote.

It's because of whiny-ass bitches who get salty because they're aren't lucky enough to be blessed by crits.
