What are you reading now?

Post by CaptainTripps » Sun Jan 04, 2009 8:26 pm

At the moment I'm re-reading Douglas Adams Hitchhiker books and getting into Michael Crighton's old stuff. Just finished The Andromeda Strain, about to start Congo, I think. I'm not sure how I missed becoming a fan of this guy, loved the movie adaptations tho, even the bad ones.

Ugh I asked for this section like a year or more ago haha.

Anyway, I had a bookstore giftcard and I bought Bram Stoker's Dracula and Moby Dick
I'm reading Dracula now. Good stuff. Excited to tear through it and read Moby Dick.

The Curse of Lono by Hunter S. Thompson.

One of the few Hunter books I don't own, and it's fantastic.

I read Airframe and Prey (both by Crichton) last year, and they were pretty good. You should check them out if you like his work. Currently I'm reading Snow Crash (thanks to snacky), and have been taking my time at it.

Hogfather by Terry Prachett

After that... Maybe Dune.

Or finish Count of Monte Cristo.

Currently reading:
Anathem - Neal Stephenson

A few of the books I read in 2008 that I would recommend:
Plato and a Platypus Walk into a Bar: Understanding Philosophy Through Jokes - Thomas Cathcart & Daniel Klein
The Art of War - Sun Tzu
Why people believe weird things - Michael Shermer
Guns, Germs, and Steel - Jared Diamond
Making Money - Terry Pratchett
The Bromeliad Trilogy: Truckers, Diggers, and Wings - Terry Pratchett (then again, anything by Terry Pratchett is worth reading)

I want to read the first, second, and fifth of that list.

Dammit, I started reading the wheel of time books again. . . when I start a book, I usually don't do much else until I'm done. Which is fine for ~300 page books, but when they're ~850, that means a few days hidden in my room. . . wait, that doesn't change much. . .
