Request: books where Middle Ages ppl are given advanced tech

Post by Archer » Tue Apr 06, 2010 5:30 am

I always like reading what the impact of high technology is on societies that are roughly in the Middle Ages. In fact, seeing the impact of high technology on any society that is unprepared for it has always interested me. Any good book recommendations for this? I loved John Ringo's Posleen war/Aldenata series.

Not exactly what you're looking for but try Anathem by Neal Stephenson (author of Snow Crash).

I just got Anathem. It sounds interesting, going to red it soon. Is Snow Crash good as well?

There's this series called "The Ancient Future" (Cant remember by who, i'll post if I do) Where someone goes back to the middle ages and they give these middle age people modern day ideals and ideas and such, not technology as such, but still interesting :)
Sincerely...

I can attest that both Anathem and Snow Crash are fantastic.
Anathem is more speculative fiction while Snow Crash is kinda cyber-punky/dystopian.

Snow Crash has it's moments. It's definitely worth reading.

A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur's Court is based around this. A guy from 'modern' (late 19th century) is transported back in time and he wows and amazes people with his 'advanced' knowledge.
