Realistic building area?

Post by Eviltechie » Sat Sep 25, 2010 11:06 pm

I've been on mc3 (our testing server) preparing the new map for the next reset (and getting a head start on the rest of you) and I was thinking "It'll be a shame when this beautiful landscape is ruined when hundreds of random structures are put up."

So I was wondering if I should set aside a large area for people to build realistic houses. We could build roads in between them, and a few parks, maybe even a small forest.

If enough people are interested, I could go ahead and claim an area and build a fence to keep everyone else out.

If we are to go ahead with this, rules would be as follows.
  1. Build houses out of realistic materials only. Wood, brick, stone, glass, etc. No houses with alternating diamond and gold or cloth walls. No lava.
  2. No mining. You can dig a basement if you wish, but don't make tunnels or anything else of the sort.
  3. Protecting the natural landscape is top priority. Don't level mountains or move a lot of dirt around. Build your house with the landscape, not against it.

You could help save this landscape. Vote yes on proposition #s torches!

For those of you who are hoping to get trusted or private access, this would be a great way to display your skills. A good part of the private server is realistic buildings.

If this would be on mc2 I don't know if that is a good idea...

i would build a house probably. but part of the reason i love mc2 is the fact that we can have random buildings and cool art but not have an extreme amount of griefers or just stupid crap and those towers people build all the way up just to get an aerial view. thats why i stick around, and i'd hate to turn mc2 into a huge suburb. but an area for a realistic neighborhood or town would be nice. I vote yes.

I love this idea. It would be nice to have it a little further away from the spawn point so it's more of a stumbled-upon area rather than a greifer's wonderland.

I was on a creative server earlier today which managed to rebuild the entire Washington DC area, including a full version of the White House, school buses, and each and every street was paved with sidewalks, cross walks and some had either stop lights or stop signs. Huge Victorian buildings, taverns, fountains, gardens and terraces, banks and sports stadiums (saw Hockey and Baseball so far) in realistic size in comparison to avatars. This was a full-on city. I couldn't believe my eyes. I'd love to try something of the sort with mc2.

Joe,

The creative server can be found in the World of MineCraft site in the servers section.
Here's the link: http://www.worldofminecraft.com/Minecraft_Servers

WoM: City Build [Wash DC] is the one I am describing now. It's easy with creative, but since we can spawn our own blocks, this shouldn't be a problem. We just need the effort of many hands!

I say yes! I have actually been building realistic buildings on mc1 / 2, so this would be a cool way of showing off your artistic and architectural skills and accommodate the building style with a similar environment.
