New J2 Minecraft Server Idea: Tekkit? Possibly.

Post by kingkki » Thu Jul 19, 2012 10:54 pm

Forgive me if I post this in the wrong forum section, but I had this idea for a little while now, and I had to get it out of my mind.

I would like to ask if it is possible to host a Tekkit Server, and the setup would be very easy.
http://www.technicpack.net/tekkit/
Server setup is very easy, and it comes with the latest version of Bukkit, so the J2 admins can add any necessary plugins.
Also, for the players.
http://www.technicpack.net/launcher/
Download the launcher, and choose tekkit if you are going to log on to said server.

Remember, this is JUST an Idea. It can be denied anytime.

Thanks for reading. :)

Its like a modpack for minecraft that adds different machines and techical stuff, but I completly understand if this gets denied, as it is somewhat complicated.

I tried out the a Tekkit server a few months back. I don't think J2 members will bother too learn everything. It's way to complicated.

That would make sense, but it dosen't have to replace a major server like mc2, it could be used in mc3, reserved for the curious people.

I ran it on my server for a little bit, it adds blocks and machines into the game. It adds programmable computers, automatic drills, oil as energy, generators and engines, and pipes where you can funnel things through. It's quite interesting and could be fun in a survival setting. It requires the player to use a custom client, but it won't steal your info.

Umm I wouldn't get too excited about it. J2 admins aren't the biggest tekkit fans.

One of the most wanted plugins for tekkit is equivalent exchange. However, equivalent exchange enables people to dupe items. Therefore, they cannot have equivalent exchange, and that makes the players whine and stuff.

Someone looked at a bunch of popular modifications for minecraft and said "I know what these need. These need to all be together!" So he put them all together without regard for how well they work together, or what bugs they create, and what crashes they cause. Thus, tekkit was born.

I don't want to ever see it on our server.

It is highly possible to disable mods at will.

I've been using it for a while now. What problems have you experienced? The only one I got was a white screen at start-up that was fixed by downloading Java 7. And that was the technic pack, not tekkit. Tekkit seems to work nice, just not all the mods work online, which are automatically disabled.

They never automatically disabled when I ran it on mine. It took me 4 re-downloads and lots of tweaking to get mine working in an even slightly bearable way, and even then it held together like a tower of cards. The mods sometimes don't load together, and it's really iffy trying to add/remove things to help it run more smoothly, as in, if you're not careful the whole thing basically eats itself.

Point is, it can be made to run smoothly, but in my opinion, it's not worth the effort. Plus I don't think our minecraft player base is large enough at the moment to add another server.
