Hooray! They finally announced it and are no longer capable of changing their minds.

Re: Dota 2 Free to Play
they've said it will be fairly strict which items are allowed into the game. last night i played my first game after the patch and completely smashed the opposing team, but someone else ended up getting an item (on the other team even i believe) and i didn't get shit

That's cool that it drops cosmetic items, kind of like tf2. Do the items give you any kind of stat buff?MindFlayer wrote:they've said it will be fairly strict which items are allowed into the game. last night i played my first game after the patch and completely smashed the opposing team, but someone else ended up getting an item (on the other team even i believe) and i didn't get shit

Yeah, the items are strictly cosmetic. Any kind of stat altering items would ruin the game.

Re: Dota 2 Free to Play
The drops are just random.
Every time you level up though with battle points you get an item guaranteed.
Also the more games you dont get items, the higher your chance gets so you will eventually always get one at some point.
And apparently higher battle levels raises your chances but im not sure on this one.

If the cosmetic items stay within reason (no alpine ursa) I don't care. But if this ends up like TF2...

Still a great game.
Re: Dota 2 Free to Play
ending up like tf2 would be a good thing. That means it would last for many, many years maintaining popularity.bh :) wrote:If the cosmetic items stay within reason (no alpine ursa) I don't care. But if this ends up like TF2...

Re: Dota 2 Free to Play
DotA 2, "free to play". Want to play DotA 2? That'll be $39.99.
Not sure if anyone else has noticed. Surprisingly haven't seen anything about it posted anywhere. Not that I've been looking where it might tend to be posted.
