The assholes were the years-old members who haven't experienced an influx of new (and many young) members before. Now they are scared off and wont grow up with the community like so many of us did.
That is what really pissed joe off.

Yo, i want to call out the fact that joe was extremely put off by all the teasing/foolin'round towards new members in the community.
You know the kind of stuff that happened constantly once we got a mine-craft server.

kod and django, yes this captures the ESSENCE of what i meant. sure there were other types of asshole behavior, but this was one of the examples. and i think it contributed to a vibe that this forum and community had turned into a high school 2.0. what i mean by this is that what everyone wanted to do on their individual part was limited on how the social hierarchy of coolness n fitting in happened to play out in the skool of joe community. like people would watch what they said or how they acted in fear of not being cool etc. thats kinda limiting. and thats probably by average turning ppl away from any community that operates like it. for example, people would drop out of real high schools if it wasnt two factors 1) potential to score hi skool chicks while on hi skool and 2) parents mandating that the kids stay in skool. without these two factors i think most ppl in hiskool or a lot at least would drop out, for real. in fact, this analogy is kinda good, since joe himself had neither of these factors working for him (cos he didnt want to do 1 the stereotypical way and had no 2 to mandate stuff) so he actually dropped out of high skool in real life, too. and maybe 20+ years later or something he quit this community. kinda funny when u think about it. just throwing this idea out there, might be total crap, who knows?

There is a lot of shit you can't communicate in a post ,and it so easy for some one misread or misinterpret.
Joe knew this and made him bit more sensitive on how people interact in his forums.

Not really; it's just his opinion and it's one I'm starting to agree with. Criticizing his opinion so harshly is what I would qualify as kinda douchy or even assholy behavior. Please keep in mind that many of the people here do not know you and don't know why they should care about what you have to say, so being aggressive and ignoring forum protocol will not win you any favor.

I made a simple joke about your MULTIPLE (not just double) posts and you responded with a mile long post which covered fonts and anthropologist orgasms. This is a lot of unnecessary and ineffective dialogue. While I appreciate your criticism of my gaming humor, I don't think a few capitalized words are cause for distress. I think everyone here understands your motivations; some have even joined your cause and are actively trying to track Joe down, but If you want the people of J2 to be responsive to your dialogue then your dialogue needs to adhere to the accepted parameters of the forum.

This is a perfect example of excessive and unnecessary dialogue that people don't want to read. You don't need to respond to every post people make if you are just going to ramble on about nothing. And yes, you should try to make your posts a easier to read (spelling, grammar, capitalization, etc) if they are going to be so long.

Is this website still tied to him, like the domain and everything? Or did he transfer control of everything to someone else before he left and if so, who?

I get the right to privacy but at the same time I'll always be curious as to what his motivation for leaving really was and what he's been up to. So if anyone ever figures it out I'd be interested in knowing too.

The domain ownership is still the same, but multiple people are still able configure it, point it to new servers, etc. We are able to renew it with a credit card. So in summary, there is nothing wrong with the domain, it's the same as always. And there is nothing wrong with the website or its data. It's all being administrated the same way as when joe was still active.

What became of him: There is no information, just speculation in all directions, all of which I ignore.

Motivation for leaving: He said a lot publicly about how he did not care for the dominate personalities: bullies, etc, and got frustrated.

UPDATE ON THE SEARCH:

yo, so far i have managed to secure this information:

1) after joe departed this online community in late 2011, he was active in another one until the end of april 2012.

2) joe has been reported to having been online as recently as of couple of weeks ago from the posting of this message. joe, or someone else accessed his steam account. although he has had many such accounts in the 2010s it is difficult/impossible to confirm that it was actually his recent account and/or it was him using it rather than someone using his old computer etc.

3) direct contacts of joe from multiple people from this community have failed and he has responded to none.

4) various searches show joe living life in the same address as he resided in late 2011. theres no other info and he doesnt appear on the death records.

conclusions:

joe is likely alive and still living in the last known address in sf. he has probably abandoned all means of previous communications, such as his most recent external email address. theres no way of contacting him except going to down town sf and figuring it out by meeting his previous real life friends and checking out if he still lives in the same address and talking to people about what became of him. my plan is to do this in 2014. however, if anyone else lives in the bay area or nearby and is/was friends with joe, please contact me, if you plan to do this before me. if joe has changed address or is no longer in contact with his past offline friends, which could be possible, then to track down joe would be very difficult, as he is likely to not leave credit card trails etc. because he probably doesnt have one at present time. so if any of joe's friends is interested in doing some digging in sf in the next couple of months, please let me know how it goes or to receive information regarding his whereabouts that we could possibly share. many thanks.

btw, i was thinking that its kind of surreal that i have to go through this or any of us, who is interested in knowing what happened to joe. we live in a truly sad but yet weirdly funny world. life is hard. shit happens. and then you turn. and you try to figure it out. what a messed up world. i would like to see a world where people would be kind to each other and hobos like joe could live forever. i like that dream world. and i believe it to be real, even for a second, at least in my mind.

Why pursue a man who doesn't want to be found? If he wanted to keep in contact, he would've kept his contact info. You're looking for joe, but acting impolitely in the face of his community. He wasn't some wise old sage or enlightened visionary or great leader. He is a guy who made a website and resulting community, with whom he loved to interact and play games with. A human being, more specifically, a kind, intelligent one.

Friendships are born, grow old, and die. His time here passed, and he left *somewhat* gracefully. Rest assured, if he had a change of heart and felt ready to interact with the community again, nothing would stop him. Men are tied to their legacies and vice versa, but it's immature to travel to his home in search of him when he's moved on. Pursuing him at this point is disrespectful to his wishes, and I for one have serious qualms about this whole thing. I say keep The Hunt For Joe to the online realm, where it began, and don't take it too seriously. If he does come back, he's not going to want to hear how sorry we are, it was a stupid situation, blah blah blah. He's going to want to spend some quality time gaming with his buddies. Let's just keep the lights on here at J2 and not fuck it up.
