For those who can`t help but shoot for spychecking, there is one helping thing.
Enemy spy in a costume doesn`t bleed when shot.

For anyone who wasn't aware;
If you shoot a disguised spy on the FF server his health bar won't change.
If you shoot an ally who isn't a spy, his health bar will change, and he'll probably be confused.
[edit] Another good indicator for anyone who has the game set to play a sound on successful hits. Shooting an enemy spy who is disguised will not play the sound, however shooting an ally will.
Hopefully this will encourage a few teammates to stop shooting me to death

Some people get paranoid and will assume that a teammate is an enemy spy.Parasyte wrote:But...the only tips you gave involve shooting to check for a spy...wut?Cypher_ wrote:Hopefully this will encourage a few teammates to stop shooting me to death

Tips playing against disguised spies.
- You never really want to spy check with any weapons besides Flamethrower, it is just not worth the risk/confusion.
- If you suspect a spy try and nonchalantly run into them, unless you run into them backwards, holding a spoon in your mouth while singing lady gaga and rubbing your stomach and patting your head, You will most of the time win close up fights vs a spy.
- Do a double take on occasion, That Engie that just fell in step behind you could easily be a spy looking for a quick kill.
- Just play on the server and you'll notice things.

I think there might be a teleporter sprinkles glitch too. I think they removed sprinkles from friendly teles for disguised spies, and that works for both sides. So if someone comes through a teleporter without the sprinkles on, they are likely a spy.

Pyro and Sniper primaries do not friendly fire, so any are same to spy-check with.Naxus wrote:- You never really want to spy check with any weapons besides Flamethrower, it is just not worth the risk/confusion.

Don't forget about the Crusader's Crossbow!
Actually, I don't know if that damages disguised spies, does it?

Re: [GUIDE] Spotting Spies Under Friendly Fire
Here's something that most people don't know. The loch n Load does not do direct friendly fire damage. Quite a few times people have spazzed out on me spychecking them with it. The grenades simply pass through teammates.
It will however do team damage from impact with an enemy and that team damage is multiplied thanks to the '+25% damage to self' also affecting teammates. So classes close to an enemy (mostly spies and scouts) can be Tked.

Technically it does, but bl4nk wrote a plugin to nullify the damage, IF SM breaks or the plugin crashes you will damage your teammatesMastermind1011 wrote:Neither does the Soldier's whip, fun fact.

Re: [GUIDE] Spotting Spies Under Friendly Fire
If you whip a friendly who's standing near a wall, the friendly won't get hurt, but the wall still gets splattered by blood.
