How do I put armor on a horse?

So.. I got a horse on my single player and named him Doodle.. I want to put armor on him but I don't know how.. I tried holding the horse armor and right clicking him but he just stood up on his hind legs... :/ so what do I do?
Reasonably sized signatures are hard.

You have to break the horse first. Keep trying to ride it until it stops bucking you.

After you tame the horse (by riding it until it stops bucking), you right click him and put the armor in the armor slot.

shift right click. just right click = ride.

I find new Minecraft stuff confusing at first. Like when sprinting came out, I was totally clueless.

Lol not sure why I said sprinting. I meant eating. I was used to right-clicking and instantly regaining health. So when I ate pork, I was wondering why I didn't get health instantly.
