It's still in Beta so no competition yet. Eventually career mode will come out and maybe even multiplayer. Currently it's more about who can get further and do more with spacecraft.

I am fairly sure multiplayer is not planned and the only way you can get it is through a hacked together saved system that shows other players active missions.
