Valve hires Bittorrent creator!

Post by Cc_Hairy » Fri Feb 13, 2004 4:37 am

According to this NY Times article, Bram Cohen moved to Seattle and started work for Valve in October.

Suprised that Bram would go work for a company owned by Vivendi, a member of RIAA? This is what Bram Cohen has to say about mp3 file trading on the popular bittorrent site, Suprnova:

"It amazes me that sites like Suprnova continue to stay up, because it would be so easy to sue them," he said. Using BitTorrent for illegal trading, he added, is "patently stupid because it's not anonymous, and it can't be made anonymous because it's fundamentally antithetical to the architecture."

Well - he didn't create bittorrent with illegal use in mind. The technology is a great concept and could really take off to the point of even reducing the use of mirroring services - maybe even getting rid of them.

What's the point of this topic anyway?

i am guessing they want him to write a better version of steam, so that valve can be cheap and have us "host" the files for them

I read this yesterday. I hope it goes well for the guy, but it's a shame he had to work for a company like Valve.

Cable guy, what do you mean "Cheap"? It is a much more efficient way and will probably make DL times much faster for you.
