ONCE you become accustomed to gas at $4 a gallon, brace yourself for the next shocking retail threshold: bananas reaching $1 a pound. At that price, Americans may stop thinking of bananas as a cheap staple, and then a strategy that has served the big banana companies for more than a century — enabling them to turn an exotic, tropical fruit into an everyday favorite — will begin to unravel.

This article isn't so much about gas prices (as the except may lead you to believe) but more so about the Latin American governments and evolution of banana marketing and politics. Enjoy.

this would impact other countries more than the US. there are tens of millions of people who eat bananas every day as a major part of their diet

I used to be friends with a guy who occasionally stuck pieces of banana up his ass and shat them back out as part of masturbation.
Surely when someone uses it for that it was worth the decades of suffering and oppression put on Latin American countries so that the rest of the world could be sold its bananas.

I read an article about a year ago that said that bananas are going to become extinct because they've been bred to not contain seeds which was a stupid move. I'll try to find a source.
