You never stop, even when asked to quit you keep going, add on top of that the very anti-gay attitude you have had twords me, and the anti gay slurs you tend to play in HLSS clips, and I am sure you are old enough and mature enough to figure out why I don't like you.
Overbear, the point of this thread was to discuss my HLSS regarding Full Metal Jacket and queers. I have nothing against gay people, I only tease and joke because I like people like you. I honestly hope you're not that offended. I also admit that I'm prone to spamming, but now I'm more than willing to stop at a request. so please, unmute me and I'll show you how much I care...

And yet people can still be offended by it in that context, gay and straight alike.

It's like arguing the validity of the n word as a racial slur just because a lot of black people utilize it in a different manner.

no one is offended by it when someone says "im here im queer"
unless they're offended by homosexuality and not the slur in itself
and if they're offended by homosexuality they would not do well on our server where i hit on guys
often

I have to doubt that there isn't at least one gay dude who resents that chant.

if you seriously don't understand how the meaning of a word depends on the context in which its used, then just follow the rules and don't argue about it. i'm not interested in explaining our very reasonable and common-sense rules to people who don't understand common courtesy in a public place.

I am, I think it demeans the struggle we gays have to get basic rights.

i definitely see both sides of that argument

i compare GLTB rights to civil rights for african americans in the 50's + 60's. it's a big fight affection tens of millions of people, it takes more than 1 battle to win. you need people trying to work inside the system, people trying to change the system from within and without, you need the positive role models, you need the lawyers, you need the money people, and you need the actors and the publicity people and the warriors and fighters and the people willing to sacrifice their lives or break the law. there is not one single way to fight for human rights - you need to attack bigotry from EVERY angle.

but at the same time, within that incredibly diverse set of methods you'll inevitably have disagreements, sometimes violent disagreements, about what method is better than another, or what hurts the overall goals. again to compare it to the civil rights era, dr MLK jr didn't approve of the black panther party, nor they him, but they both pushed black rights forward. some gays might find the flamboyancy of the gay pride parades off-putting or even detrimental to the image of homosexuality in the US but the guys in the parade would say that the way to overcome prejudice is not to back down or hide from it.

personally i think it's fucking shameful that in the US we are still a racist, homophobic, xenophobic, misogynistic, anti-atheist (or any non-christian religion) nation (at least, the republican part of it). most white people have no clue what it's like to be black even for a single day in this country, having to deal with pervasive, systemic racism, and the blacks have a 30 year head-start on their civil rights compared to GLTB. hell, the african americans in california voted for prop 8 at a higher proportion than the whites.

i think we, all humans everywhere, are at a turning point in history. not this year or this decade, but i think during this century, civilization will either slide backwards into superstition, nationalism, isolationism and despotism everywhere, or somehow the rest of the world will catch up to scandinavia and canada and the truly free countries of the world (which do not presently include the US for many people). that can only happen if people stop fucking spamming offensive sound clips using HLSS.

and that brings us back to the original topic.
