MAG

Post by Magnus » Wed Apr 29, 2009 3:26 pm

Has anyone heard about this game? Its full title is Massive Action Game (completely unoriginal right?) but the thing that is really appealing is that it sports battles up to 256 people in one game. From what I've read so far its very much like Battlefield except you choose a faction and stick with it. There is 3 announced so far and offer something different. There are skill trees and such.
Wiki wrote:The game will utilize a new server architecture to support online battles with up to 256 players, with users divided into 8-player squads. Each squad will be led by a player who has advanced through the game's ranking system. Character statistics and development will also increase with frequent gameplay. The players most advanced in rank will be able to either direct the battle or participate directly in combat.
Basic battles will take place within ongoing, faction-based campaigns to encourage the player to actively play, with at least three factions being considered for inclusion; including American, European and Middle Eastern factions.
The game's E3 unveiling trailer featured large landscapes, tactics such as air strikes and parachuting, and a variety of vehicles, from tanks and APCs to airplanes. The game will boast numerous classes for players to specialize in; including medics, commandos and field demolition specialists. The game will be a first-person shooter.

The only problem is that its for the PS3. A game like this would be amazing on PC but as far as I know its a PS3 Exclusive. Which is why I think it won't do as well as expected.

The game looks quite good. I just dont see why they make exclusive games. They will never make as much money. Why?

And people complain/don't buy the port if it's not done well.

I'll buy it, maybe. Hopefully there will be a PSN release, I don't like disks.

But I don't like the PS3 controller, I don't want to play this without mic on most people, and hell, my PS3 is for Rock Band.

Though I skipped Killzone 2, which had pretty good class-based online play, and the 64 or-whatever-player Resistance 2. If Valve does CS2/other online game this year, MAG might get skipped.

I want BF 3 or some other massive shooter that's on PC, one that is not a jump around arcade game like COD or UT or Quake Wars: ET.

I saw this demo'd at either CES, or E3, I cannot remember, but I downloaded video of it on my PS3, it has some great ideas, but I don;t like exclusivity, I want a game that anyone with any system can play, and all can play online with each other.

You on your PC frag me while I play on my PS3, while someone else with an XBox frags you, while someone on a bus with their PSP frags the XBox guy.

I think big.

I think you mean:

You on your PC frag me while I play on my PS3, while someone else with an XBox gets fragged by a PC player, while someone on a bus with their PSP gets fraged by the PC along with the Xbox guy.

I forgot to add, the XBoX player is in south Korea, the PS3 player, is me, in midwest USA the PC player is in the Belgium part, and the PSP person on a bus is from Australia.

Although, it would also be cool if someone on a laptop using some linux based OS was playing from the INtl' Space Station, fragged us all with a crit rocket.

Except the PC players would mop the floor with console players. There is a reason they haven't done it yet. They were talks of doing thing a while back, they even did play testing, but the console players just weren't enough competition to PC players, they didn't have the reflexes with a controller.

I remember reading that they took a top tier Halo team and put them against your average PC player and even though most of the PC players didn't know the maps or strategies for them like halo team did, neither did they play the game as much as they did. Despite their disadvantage they still stomped the halo team simply because they were faster and more agile in aiming and moving.

The developers decided to scrap the idea because it created an unfair playing field and other developers have followed suit.

I still think it would be cool if they did do it but I know they aren't. If anything they will do a cross console in the future but I don't think they would let computer players in, unless they allowed consoles to attach a Keyboard and Mouse to play.
