for example here is an important detail: there will be 3 kinds of accounts
Basic: The standard, free account new players will receive upon sign up.
Verified: Basic accounts that have been upgraded through a show of commitment to their account, by either purchasing Goblin Coins or surpassing a certain threshold of play time. This allows them to participate in Verified Only games.
Legacy: Paid user accounts that existed prior to the free-to-play model. These accounts receive a lifetime of free access to all HoN heroes and are able to play in Verified Only games, to ensure that experts and beginners are separated. Legacy accounts can no longer be purchased.

seems like they went up against LoL and basically lost and are trying to save their game/company while they still can, before dota2 comes out and destroys what's left of them

I don't know if they're even going to attempt to save HoN, they're probably just trying to get funding to develop a new game. Apparently there's massive balancing issues with the newer heroes and instead of fixing the problems they're just adding more and more heroes.

i kinda loled when i got an email saying they went free to play, especially since dota 2 has been on my mind. I shall continue playing LoL until dota2.. it's definitely grown on me more than this game.
