a year from now (summer '12) what MOBA will you play most

Post by joe » Mon Aug 22, 2011 7:32 am

i understand people might play more than one but what do you predict will be YOUR most often played moba style game?

assume for the sake of the poll that all the games on the list have been out for some months so you can settle on one

no purpose for this poll other than my own curiosity

btw if you are curious about blizzard's official dota coming out with heart of the swarm, here's a couple items:

review from last year - apparently it's a moba-style game with very little in common with the original dota - there will be universal skills like in lol, and totally different heroes

Raynor – The iconic Marine specializes in abilities and movement speed
- Command aura, nearby units +10% damage aura
- Piercing shot, lined shot that goes through multiple units
- Mark Target, it takes 10-50% more damage
- Flare area, enemy units deal less damage andhave less armor
- Rally, nearby units have increased movement and attack speed temporarily
- Call reinforcements, marine backups are dropped in (9-12 at a time)

“DOTA’s a very addictive game that chases the vast majority of people off because their team mates are screaming at them. We’ve always felt DOTA has a very accessible, easy to approach fun game deep down inside that’s just waiting to come out.

“We’ve just been basically carving around that and trying to knock off all the rough edges and really make it more user friendly.”

I voted for LoL.

Im probably not gonna buy DotA2, unless its really really cheap.

And i dont know, im not even interested in playing any other DotA's. I really like LoL.

Voted for DotA2 but I'm not really sure. Gonna have to try that and the new SC2DotA. Honestly I haven't really played any MOBA much in like 6 months, so I may be done with all of these by this time next year.

I have no desire to get onto a game (sc2) to play a custom map (sc2dota) when I could play an entire game specifically designed and updated FOR that type of playstyle. Maybe when there were only bad moba games out, I would have played sc2dota, but LoL is tons of fun for me still and I expect that dota2 will make many improvements on LoL that I look forward to.

So... I think it will be dota2 for me. It's possible I'll still be playing LoL as well though. I predict HoN to be dead by then...

i honestly think sc2 dota will be a total flop. the custom map scene in SC2 is a gigantic failure (the most popular map is still nexus wars!) and if 90% of the people playing sc2 aren't bothering with custom maps, they are hardcore sc2 players which means they are less interested in a whole new genre of game

i'm not saying NO ONE will play it - it will definitely capture some people - but it will just be a percent of people who already play sc2 custom maps which is pretty small in the first place.

blizzard had years and years to work on this - it's totally their fault for dropping the ball. when did dota first become popular in wc3? 2007? probably earlier. they are a multi-billion-dollar company. they should have immediately bought the rights to the game and hired at least icefrog and guinsoo and there would be no such thing as LoL or HoN or Dota2.

i'll def be switching between LoL and DoTA2, i can't see just totally dropping LoL when DoTA2 comes out for the simple fact that i've spent a good bit of money on it w/ skins etc.

can't really count my chickens before they hatch, but dota2 looks fucking sweet

i agree with joe on blizz's dota, UMS on sc1 was the big thing for me between 1998-2005, and they completely shat all over that with sc2. the whole reason i haven't bought sc2 tbh. i probably played atleast 2k hours on sc1's UMS maps

I'll probably be playing Dota 2 more then LoL and Hon, but I can't completely drop it like prolix because I've spent a good chunk of change on LoL.

in the US perhaps, but not in europe
heck, it's struggeling to stick to page 2 of the "most popular" list

anyway, it all depends on Dota2's price

if it's under €15 or so i'll probably play that
if not i'm sticking to lol

lets be honest, if dota2 doesn't have a very large population because it starts at $50... it won't be $50 for very long
