NEW YORK - The nation's largest beverage distributors have agreed to halt nearly all sales of sodas to public schools — a step that will remove the sugary, caloric drinks from vending machines and cafeterias around the country.
The agreement was announced Wednesday by the William J. Clinton Foundation and will also likely apply to many private and parochial schools.
"This is a bold step forward in the struggle to help 35 million young people lead healthier lives," former President Clinton said at a news conference. "This one policy can add years and years and years to the lives of a very large number of young people."

Give us skinny people a break, just because the fatties buy it by the dozen doesn't mean I should go thirsty.

is it similar to pop?

Next year my private school is moving campus... and we are building the most green-friednly school in the state (or even the US aparently)...
so this also means only healthy foods in the vending machines. including drinks.
Which kinda sucks, but really i wouldnt mind not drinking as much soda as i do now. When i have access to something i usually eat/drink it but if i didnt have access to it i wouldnt and wouldnt even notice. I mean... im not fat by any means, but would like to be healthier.
All in all i think this is a good move.

They got rid of sodas at our school, but installed Tyson Hot Choice machines which spit out chicken strips that look and taste like foam with preservatives. LOTS of preseratives.

They did that here, too. SODA has been replaced with flavored water and such.

Pish, I'm not fat. I've lost 40 pounds since last thanksgiving.... went from XL to M in my style redisgn.
Yet I seem to consume over 5 Mt. Dews / Mellow Yellows a day (my school = coke = blows) and the occasional bawls and the more occasional red bull...
If I gave up sodas I'd probably lose another 10-20... but I can't, and I don't want to.... I don't care if it's not healthy... Polluting my lungs isn't either...
Yea I agree a lot of fat kids have problems with soda... not my problem though... sorry.

I prefer water than soda. Better for my teeth, and better on a hot day.
