FFXIV "Free Trial" period extended until further notice.

Post by Bloodkraze » Fri Dec 10, 2010 2:49 am

Seems that SE has been making some big changes, most notably the removal of old team members on FFXIV and replacing them with different people who can hopefully get some work done, and with this change comes FFXIV "free trial" extending until they are satisfied with the end result (no date given).

Eh, at least it's something. If I had the game and could play for free all the time until it was a better game I'd be so down with that.

I have to agree with Joe, I really did try to stick with FF14 but it's just too repetitive and the levequest cap is a real downer. They would have to change something drastic to make me come back.

projected a staggering 91% decrease in the company’s net profit for the 2010-2011 fiscal year. Square Enix cut its profit forecast from 12 billion yen to just 1 billion yen (about $12 million).
that'll learn ya to put out a shitty game

It all started when the joined up with Enix. I miss the quality of games we haven't had since the PS2 days.

my fav thing about early ffxi when I used to play was when I would train all of the mobs in the dunes area (lowbies level up at) and exit out of the zone from the way to windurst exit. And watch the tons of newbie partys that had no clue what was going on get raped.

I'm glad, cause the game has potential to be pretty sick. News about it has been quiet for a while, glad to see they're stepping up their game.

i actually think it's way too late. at this point they should start working on a new MMO and just close XIV. tell the customers who bought it they will get a free copy of the new MMO when it comes out in 2 years or whatever

a lot of the hardest work is already done - textures, animations, monsters, etc. they just need to completely redo all the gameplay mechanics and maps. if they just copied how FFXI works, that would be fine with everyone

I was in alpha and beta testing for ffxiv, and I would like to say that the game was actually better in alpha than when it was released. The leveling system was more grind-based (which I don't mind), but after the second or so beta build they changed a lot of the mechanics, making it harder to level off of mobs, but at the same time you had to rely on the stupid leve quests that reset every two days. If you failed the quest, you couldn't try it again for two days, and there were only four quests per area. I out leveled the questing content quickly, so I had to resort to questing at level 17 in a level 30 quest area. There was no hardware cursor until they released the game, and the menus were so awkward to use. The game isn't very optimized for slower computers, so it's not very accessible as a game if you don't have a nice computer. The game wasn't even half-finished when it was released. I was truly disappointed, and even after all of the changes, I don't really care to pick the game back up. I was there to play with buddies, and they have since moved on to better games. It's a shame, the game is really beautiful, but in my opinion they should have stuck to what they knew from FF XI, I loved that game, and a lot of the people who were playing XIV were transferring over from XI. I guess I will just wait for tera :D
