My grandma is from Kyoto, the country side. And while I was asking her she told me women had to use different, "softer" language because doing otherwise would be "too masculine."

Ishihara as the governor of Tokyo is pretty much the equivalent of Rush Limbaugh being the governor of New York City...and winning by a landslide 4 times in a row. What does this say about the people that re-elect a guy like that?

I don't mean to over generalize Japan at all, as there are obviously people who are exceptions. Not everyone in Japan supports Ishihara, like not everyone here in the US supported Bush as our president. I wouldn't take offense to someone from another country going to me, "Bush for a 2nd term? WTF America?"

Elections (and politics in general) in Japan are pretty much a joke.

how does that picture show anything about elections or politics, other than that they change leaders more frequently?

Ahh yes, I did, thank you.

And the fact that Japan has had a different PM every year for the past 5 years doesn't say anything to you about the state of politics in this country? Or that there's been 15 different PMs since 1989 (21 years)?

For comparison, there have been FOUR different PMs since 1990 in the UK (John Major, Tony Blair, Gordon Brown, David Cameron).

Let me not forget to mention that the LDP has been in control since 1955, with a brief interruption between 1993-Jan.1996. Well and the DPJ just took control in September of 2009. You don't need to draw specifics from this but it's pretty easy to see that the state of Japanese politics is in shambles. By this point, it's pretty much a joke even to the Japanese people.

it could be better or it could be worse but that picture alone doesn't say much.

i'd rather have had 200 sheepdogs as president of the US instead of george bush. they would have been better for the country.
