I'm a cynic towards organizations like this doing donations. While it may have all gone to Japan in this case, they were still getting positive publicity and such- I'd be more annoyed if only 50% or something went to Japan. Good for them for doing this though

I always suspect a processing fee is taken off the top in these situations, too.

Why does it matter why they are doing it? As long as it is for a good cause. As it were, a lot of charities don't hit 70% going towards the actual charity, a lot of it goes towards advertisements and administrative "fees"(people's pay checks, which is fine, as long as it doesn't get out of hand).

Then you could go ahead and get into a debate that people only do charitable things for the feel good feeling associated with it.
Because, since you don't know me, there is a great possibility that I'm on an higher intellectuel level then you are on.

That's not true in all circumstances I don't believe, but it is to an extent. I think some organizations trick themselves into thinking they're making a huge difference while really they want the exposure, small amount of profits, and the perception of them being a really "good" organization.

70% not going towards the charity is pretty sucky imo :\

It's worse than you realize, whenever someone asks me to donate to something I ask them how much of their money goes into overhead. Usually it shuts them up pretty quick. If trading publicity for charity is what it takes to get good done in the world, I am OK with this. Better get publicity by donating than by spending that money on an advertising campaign.
