Apparently there was a big backlash when it was announced that the Female Sheppard would be blond haired and blue eyed. So Bioware opened up a second poll to determine what colour female sheppard's hair should be.
Which is a red head.
I've played through ME 1 and 2 as female sheppard and I can say without a doubt that is a much better play than the Male lead, it just feels like a better fit. Not many females get put in as a lead in games that aren't completely stereotypical.

lol you think people haven't extensively sexualized FemShep already.
This is pretty cool, equal opportunity and all- I've always just played as the default male Shepard, since he always seemed to make the most sense to play. I didn't care too much for female Shepard's voice when I played through the first game, she always seemed pissed off regardless of what dialogue choices you made, but a lot of people seemed to like her.
