Acclaimed chefs Alice Waters and Jacques Pepin appreciate that television has brought the joy of cooking to the masses. But they decry the barrage of culinary competition shows such as “Top Chef,” “Hell’s Kitchen” and “Chopped,” claiming they are doing a “disservice.”

“That’s not what’s cooking is all about,” Pepin told reporters at the Television Critics Association Press Tour. “Cooking is about being together, about love and sharing … That kind of confrontation that you have there is not really how you learn to cook, or how you understand food.”

I couldn't agree more! TV shows like this are ruining the cooking community.

I agree reality cooking shows do suck - although i do enjoy master chef / master chef jr to a degree... chopped is absolute garbage.
